I really have one goal in mind
with any media exposure that my story may garner - that
goal is to reach the guy or gal out there that may be overweight
and thinking that there is no hope to lose the weight.
I want to inspire them to GET UP, GET MOVING and live a
healthier and more active life. If I can do it,
anyone can do it!

NBC "DAYTIME" INTERVIEW
19 October 2009 - Promotional video
with NBC's "Daytime" show that was filmed in Tampa
Bay, FL.
WILDFLOWER HALF-IRONMAN TRIATHLON
3 May 2009 - I was invited out by
Tri-California to participate in the
Wildflower Half-Ironman triathlon in Lake
San Antonio, CA. They interviewed me and
other guest media athletes before the race
in 'Fireside Chat' videos.
7 March 2009 - It was purely on a
whim that I went to an audition for Gatorade's Quest
for G Reality show. They wanted athletes
in an age range of 18 - 35 and I'm 37.
They were looking for athletes that were at the top
of their sport. I'm lucky to finish in
the top 25% in my races. I honestly never
thought I would even be considered for placement in
the show but the casting directors kept calling me
back time after time for more information and to
come back in for more auditions. I had
the same slant in each of the auditions which was it
really didn't matter how much training I got, I was
very realistic in the fact that there was no way
that I would ever be a pro triathlete. I
just wanted to be an Ironman and I wanted my first
Ironman to be Kona. I stressed that if
there was any way that Gatorade could help me with
that then I am all for letting them tell my story.
They auditioned thousands
of athletes from around the country and
somehow I made it into the top candidates to
be considered for the show. When I
made it to the top 50 the casting directors
asked everyone to make a video of training
sessions, interviews with friends and family
and to discuss our 'journeys'. I
sent in my video and once again thought that
would be the end of my communication with
Gatorade.
Well they contacted me
again to let me know that I was one of the
final 27 candidates. From those 27
athletes they chose 16 to attend the Boot
Camp in Los Angeles. Unfortunately I
was not in the final 16 but they did include
some of my footage in the second episode.
4 February 2009 - Nan Kappeler
from Triathlete Magazine did an article on my story
that appeared in the online edition of the
Triathlete Magazine. I was VERY excited to
have my story featured in a Triathlon based
magazine.
11 January, 2009 - WINNING AT
LOSING: The Advocate, Sunday edition, in my hometown of Baton Rouge,
Louisiana, did a great article on me on Sunday,
January 11th. I was really excited
because my article was the feature, front page
article in the People section.
225 Magazine, in my hometown of Baton Rouge,
Louisiana, did a really cool article on me in their
September 2008 issue. The article was
their monthly 'Signature' article.
CNN
SPECIAL FIT-NATION REPORT WITH DR. SANJAY GUPTA
I got a call at the beginning of
July from the producer for Dr. Sanjay Gupta at CNN
telling me that he recently visited
www.team464.com and wanted to interview me for a
feature piece on the network. Being the cautious
prick that I am I told him to f-off thinking he was
my training partner playing a joke on me. Well, it
wasn't my training partner. It really was the
producer at CNN and after I apologized he setup a
day and time in New Orleans the following week to
come down with the film crew to do the interview.
We did the interview on some
random street in New Orleans and they filmed me
walking around. It was cool and for a few fleeting
moments I felt like a rock star as random people on
the street were walking up to my parents and the
small crowd asking who I was and what movie I was
filming. Little did they know it was only some
former super-duper-morbidly-obese-fat-boy turned
triathlete talking about losing weight. (I
still felt like a rock star!)
(The
Times-Picayune did a feature article on me that
published the day of the marathon and a paragraph or
two in the follow up article that published on the
day after the marathon.)
Tangi Lifestyles, a local
magazine for Tangipahoa Parish in Louisiana did a
feature article on me in May 2008.
